You've got your tickets, you know where you're going, where you're staying and all you have to do know is get there. Couldn't be easier.
Manchester has a transport infrastructure that most cities would die for. The airport is the 12th busiest in Europe and during 2006, readers of eight individual travel trade magazines and judges for the British Travel Awards voted Manchester 'Best UK Airport.'
Similarly, the award-winning Manchester Airport railway station is at the heart of airport complex and it is a 40 minute from there to the city centre. The rest of the England's Northwest, including Liverpool and the Lake District, is also within easy reach.
By train from the rest of the country the city is easy to visit - Virgin Trains takes just over 2 hours from London with a following wind (from as little as £12.50 if you book in advance). Manchester is the primary destination on the West Coast line.
Once you have made it into central Manchester and, if you're arriving by plane, we suggest getting the train from the airport (£2.80 - takes 17 minutes) rather than driving, climbing into a taxi or catching a bus, you have the Metrolink Light Railway (or as everybody in Manchester calls it - 'The tram') to deliver you to your venue of choice. This cuts through the city centre to the North, South and West with the hub at Piccadilly.
There are buses but the city centre is compact enough to get across by minicab at minimal cost (£8- £10 on a match-day to Old Trafford, £6 to the City of Manchester Stadium) and if there are more than two or three of you, the taxi is the better option whatever budget you might be on. Rest assured, whichever way you travel, you will love it.
The tallest sculpture in the UK (yep, taller than the 'Angel of the North') is outside the City of Manchester Stadium. It is called 'B of the Bang'. It was inspired by Olympic Gold Medal-winning sprinter Linford Christie who once reflected that he started a race on the 'B of the Bang'. It reflects the fact that Manchester - as it was when it became home of the first computer - is always first out of the blocks. Make sure you're not left behind. Otherwise, you won't know what you're missing.
